We are up over 1400 new cases today. You can see the growth. It went from 100 new cases at a time to 400 at a time...1000 at a time to 1400. That might be because they are just testing more people. But actually, the growth is a bit disturbing. At this rate, we will have 100000 cases in a month. And while most cases are really mild this does kill people. Germany has a very low death rate but we have lost 17 people so far. They are taking this very seriously. New rules are being enforced. Nearly everything is shut down. The drive-through at McDonald's looks like it will remain open. Thank God!!! And the building supply store will also stay open for now. I expect we will see a lot of home improvements going on. Germans have been asked to cancel all none important travel. So I am grateful we will not be allowed to export Corona to Africa for example. Hotels here are not even allowed to have tourists. So it is understandable that the Americans all rushed home. The hotels here are closed. At least closed to tourists. Maybe they will be used to house emergency workers? I know in Italy the medical personnel is quarantined from their families. That is for the protection of their families. They are making a huge sacrifice. At the end of the day, they are heroes.
Jessica, our 28-year-old autistic daughter is bored. She normally goes to a disabled workshop every day. But for her protection, and ours we chose to keep her home. The workshop is really wonderful, but there are so many people. The staff that comes and go, bus drivers. We just wanted to limit her contacts. They did not ask us to do this. But Jessica was born with 4 heart defects. She would be considered a high-risk case if she got a bad case of the virus. We did not want to take the risk. Jess is bored. She got me up at 4:30 am. I'm going to be a zombie today. It just makes me conscious of the millions of people who struggle with some form of disability. Life can be a challenge in the best of times...but now this. If you know someone that needs support, maybe you can be creative to help them. You can not see or visit them, but you can call them. Or you can drop care packages at their door. You can pray for them. I took Jessica on a 3-hour car ride yesterday. I will probably do the same thing today. I bought an 8-hour audible book on the sermons of Charles Spurgeon. Maybe we will find someone to deliver love or encouragement to? It is a goal. Sarah got up at the normal time. They gave her a pile of homework. She is going for it! Juergen is also able to work from home. We talked with Philip. They are all under quarantine at his school, but he can continue to study. He is staying there. And I know he would have been so bored at home. I am glad he will be busy and safe.
