12327, up 3000 cases in 24 hours. They have the virus in Uganda

Everything is closing up even tighter.  Here in Germany, they are setting up hospitals in convention halls.  They want to separate the normal hospital business with the Coronavirus cases.  The growth is sobering.  Only the more difficult cases get to be tested.  So I do not qualify for a test.  I have little energy and get easily winded.  My cough is lessening. I have no fever.  If I have the virus, I will probably never know.  But we are really isolated at home.  We only take a daily drive with Jessica. I have enough food in the house to last for weeks.  Juergen goes out to buy bread.  But mostly we are home.
Yesterday I did get Philip to mow the lawn.  I did some work on the window boxes.  Today I need to plant onions and strawberries.  Sarah began reading the first book in the 7 book Narnia series.  Juergen is giving SAP at least 12 hours a day.  I honestly do not see much of him.  After he finishes work, he helps Sarah and Philip with homework.  We need to set a date just to spend some time.  He still has deadlines to make.  I'm grateful he can work from home, but at home, he does not easily leave work.  We need to work on that.  We will find a better normal.
The German government declared the highest level of disaster warning and basically ordered all non-EU residences to leave.  But also ordered its people home. Nicole is in Seattle doing a 6-month internship.  Her health insurance was made void.  And she is ordered to return home within 14 days.  That was 3 days ago.  So now she has 11 days to secure new health insurance that actually covers the preexisting condition of coronavirus, or come home.  The airline, Condor will change her flight for free.  They stop flying on the 24th I believe.  So really she has to decide now.  And it is really stressful and sad if she can not finish this internship.  But as her mom, I wish she was here.  She is a wise person, and I am praying God will help her stay or come home...as he wills.  None of us can see what is ahead.  And the entire world is dealing with the disappointment of changed plans and canceled dreams.  If she stays, I hope she will find a very good solution that can be trusted.  I know she is safe at my brother's house.  But I would be lying if I said I did not wish her home. I will respect whatever she decides.
Last night the president of Uganda closed all the schools for 30 days and imposed many other rules to fight the spread of the Coronavirus.  So even before they have confirmed their first case, they have declared this action. The actual fear is about 1500 tourists have entered the country from Europe.  They should be in quarantine.  But they pay bribes to avoid the quarantine.  At the cost of the health and safety of millions of citizens. EU citizens now face a travel ban.  So we will not be allowed to export the Coronavirus on our Easter vacations.  The vacations have been canceled.  But I am the board member of Suubi Teen MOPS in Uganda.  We are a small NGO that cares for teenage mothers in the Kampala slums.  And I can tell you they are afraid of what is ahead.  All the people are terrified.  They can not work from home. They do not have the online learning everyone else has.  They do not have health insurance.  I am sure the few ventilators in the country are reserved for the very rich.  The poor do not even have soap.  We have given away over 2000 bars in the slums over the past two weeks.  They report it is like handing our bread to hungry people.  The only thing we can advise our women to do is carry on, and pray they do not get the virus.  We can not afford to pay for their rent and food.  We can not afford to keep them safely at home.  So we can only pray they will remain healthy, or have light cases.  They are very young.  And we ask them to hide their old.  If they have parents, aunts, and grandmothers...hide them.  And bring food to them.  But do not live with them or have them care for their children.  We will shut down the sewing workshop and have the women work from home.  We will provide some extra food money.  We may help them on an individual basis if they fall behind in rent.  I am giving them fabric to make facemasks.  Soap will remain open.  They will receive extra food money because the kids are home from school.  The feasts will be canceled for a few months to avoid large gatherings.  The money will go to the extra food fund. Please pray for wisdom as we try to help them in this time of need.  You can read more about Suubi on our website.  www.teenmops.com   There are ways to donate to Suubi on the website.  Thank you for any gift.  we really need help right now!

The photos are from yesterday's outreach.  They gave away 1000 bars of soap. If people keep donating money, we will gladly keep making and giving away soap to the poor.

1966 cases and I can not go home

There are over 300 new cases of coronavirus in Germany.  The death rate is very low.  Everyone wants to credit our great health care system.  I think in the end, it will be the age of the people who got Coronavirus.  Italy has a very old population.  They got hit very fast and hard with this.  We have had time to get ready.  And I told a friend of mine today, Germans still sweep the sidewalks every week.  They do what is right for the entire society, not just what is right for themselves.  That is a general statement.  Naturally, there are exceptions.  I read about a man in Berlin who went to a night club even after hearing he had the virus.  16 people got the virus from him.  So some will care more about themselves and their convenience, and others look at the greater good. About 3 weeks ago I began to see this happening.  The spread of the virus I mean.  And I had to weigh if I should travel to America to my m...

96,092 cases and changing the world

I saw this sign on Facebook.  It made me laugh out loud.  and Juergen nearly cried laughing when I showed it to him.  If you do not get it, the Coronavirus they believe came from a person eating a bat.  Or an animal that had been infected by a bat. That person contracted the virus, and they spread it to another person...and here we all are.  Locked up in our houses, economy ready to crash. If you want to change the world in a good way, we are trying to support 35 teenage mothers and their 46 kids in this time of lock down. They can not earn money (by law unable to sell their hand crafts) so we are trying to help them pay food and rent. And they stay busy making beads, bags and soap to be sold in the future gift shop. Check here for more details. HOW TO SUPPORT TEENAGE MOTHERS SURVIVE THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN IN KAMPALA.   Nicole took my desk, and Juergen is taking the entire office to do his work. I set up a table for myself in my bedroom. T...
