4599 cases and Taco Bell is contemplating converting its restaurants to drive-thru only.

Germany and all of Europe is locking down. 4599 cases, that is up 1000 from yesterday.   I saw a photo from US airports.  A sea of travelers escaping while they can.  I wonder if they all now must face 14 days of quarantine?  Who could have ever dreamed the world would stop?  But it is stopping.  And once the shock of it is over, I believe we will see a wave of innovation and creativity. I guess we need to first feel secure.  I know I needed that.  I needed to have the food, and yes the toilet paper in the house first.  I needed my family home and safe.  Or at least in a safe place.  Thomas is in Frankfurt, Nicole in Seattle.  Philip finds out on Monday what is going to happen.  Then he may come home.  But we do not know yet. But Juergen, Jessica, Sarah and I are settling down.  We will be here for at least 5 weeks.  But that could be extended.  When I look at China, I can imagine it will be extended.
We went shopping for paint and boxes.  I will try to repaint the kitchen at some point.  I picked a  pink color.  It reminded me of Italy.  We still have a reservation in a vacation house in Tuscany for two weeks in August. I wanted to look at a vacation house to buy.  I do not know if we would actually buy something.  I just wanted to look.  I love it there. I hope we do not need to cancel it.   My heart breaks as I watch what is happening there.  I have watched it very closely.  I knew it was the same storm headed towards us. I received so much grief for being panicked.  But I only wanted people to prepare.  Now I do not need to convince anyone there is a wave coming.  Everyone knows.
Today our church is online. I am also starting a prayer group online.  It is on Facebook.  You will need to ask to be added to the group.

We will pray for known needs.  And I hope also to give testimonies of answers. Time is something the church will have in this lockdown.  We can try to be creative.  Help bring food to those in need.  Call each other on the phone.  Encourage each other.  Not everyone has a good support group at home.
I am praying for Uganda.  They do not have Coronavirus yet.  They are a young country.  But for the many grandparents that are the sole supporters of many families...this could be tragic.  So today please pray it does not reach Uganda.

I read Taco Bell will be a drive-through only store.  I hope McDonald's stays open.  If you know my daughter Jessica, you know she loves her chicken McNuggets. As long as she can have her daily rides and her McDonalds I think we can manage.

Update:  In France, cafes and restaurants — central to the country’s soul and social life — were ordered closed along with most other nonessential businesses. So on Monday, we plan to go buy everything we think we may need or want in the coming weeks.  Maybe some more paint, books, more garden supplies.  I am very sure Germany will follow France on this.
In Germany- all cinemas, theatres, concert halls, and sports facilities, including gyms and fitness studios, along with bars, pubs, casinos, and clubs, until at least April 19.
The border of France and Austria closes Monday.  They even think to shut down trains and travel within Germany.

My church met online today.  I actually cried just to be connected to my church today.  We are not a technical group use to this.  But it does not really matter.  They did a great job.

I also read this.  It means a country's ability to manage this has something to do with how fast or overrun the hospitals get.  Germany has 2 times as many beds as Italy.  But we are still worried.  We need to slow the virus down so not everyone gets sick at the same time.
In Germany there are about 28,000 beds for intensive care patients. "Compared to Italy, we have two and a half times as many intensive care beds per 1,000 inhabitants," says Reinhard Busse, Professor of Health Care Management at the Technical University of Berlin, adding: "This shows the reserve potential that we have compared to Italy to have."
Germany has one of the
largest bed densities in the world
Andreas Gassen sees things similarly. "As far as I know, 28,000 intensive care beds are top worldwide. That is around 30 to 100,000 inhabitants. The United Kingdom, for example, has 6 to 100,000 inhabitants, France 12 to 100,000. We are extremely well positioned there," explains the head of the statutory health insurance Federal association.

1966 cases and I can not go home

There are over 300 new cases of coronavirus in Germany.  The death rate is very low.  Everyone wants to credit our great health care system.  I think in the end, it will be the age of the people who got Coronavirus.  Italy has a very old population.  They got hit very fast and hard with this.  We have had time to get ready.  And I told a friend of mine today, Germans still sweep the sidewalks every week.  They do what is right for the entire society, not just what is right for themselves.  That is a general statement.  Naturally, there are exceptions.  I read about a man in Berlin who went to a night club even after hearing he had the virus.  16 people got the virus from him.  So some will care more about themselves and their convenience, and others look at the greater good. About 3 weeks ago I began to see this happening.  The spread of the virus I mean.  And I had to weigh if I should travel to America to my m...

12327, up 3000 cases in 24 hours. They have the virus in Uganda

Everything is closing up even tighter.  Here in Germany, they are setting up hospitals in convention halls.  They want to separate the normal hospital business with the Coronavirus cases.  The growth is sobering.  Only the more difficult cases get to be tested.  So I do not qualify for a test.  I have little energy and get easily winded.  My cough is lessening. I have no fever.  If I have the virus, I will probably never know.  But we are really isolated at home.  We only take a daily drive with Jessica. I have enough food in the house to last for weeks.  Juergen goes out to buy bread.  But mostly we are home. Yesterday I did get Philip to mow the lawn.  I did some work on the window boxes.  Today I need to plant onions and strawberries.  Sarah began reading the first book in the 7 book Narnia series.  Juergen is giving SAP at least 12 hours a day.  I honestly do not see much of him.  After he fin...

96,092 cases and changing the world

I saw this sign on Facebook.  It made me laugh out loud.  and Juergen nearly cried laughing when I showed it to him.  If you do not get it, the Coronavirus they believe came from a person eating a bat.  Or an animal that had been infected by a bat. That person contracted the virus, and they spread it to another person...and here we all are.  Locked up in our houses, economy ready to crash. If you want to change the world in a good way, we are trying to support 35 teenage mothers and their 46 kids in this time of lock down. They can not earn money (by law unable to sell their hand crafts) so we are trying to help them pay food and rent. And they stay busy making beads, bags and soap to be sold in the future gift shop. Check here for more details. HOW TO SUPPORT TEENAGE MOTHERS SURVIVE THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN IN KAMPALA.   Nicole took my desk, and Juergen is taking the entire office to do his work. I set up a table for myself in my bedroom. T...
