3675, up more than 2000 cases in 4 days and now the schools have closed

Yesterday I was out very early to shop.  I wanted to buy enough food so we do not need to go out for a few weeks.  I wore a face mask.  I felt a little silly because no one else had on a facemask. but I was keenly aware of the number of people coughing.  and I have a cough too.  I have restricted my contact for two weeks. I did shop but distanced myself.   Sarah, on the other hand, had to go to school.  She must come in contact with a few thousand people a week. That is with school, train rides and soccer games.  And Juergen and Jessica both cut way back on social contact.  But they both must have seen at least 30 to 60 people.  So we may all already have the Coronavirus.  We are all coughing.  My lungs hurt a little.  None of us are sick enough to be tested.  I wish I knew if it was the virus in a light form.  But there are not enough test kits.  So we may never know.  It could just be hey fever?  I am sure a lot of people wonder if this is it.  But I am grateful that so far it is not so bad that there is no question.  Very grateful for that! I am no doctor.  There are some reports that zinc can help your body fight coronavirus.  It is not going to cure anyone or prevent you from getting it.  But I am taking zinc and vitamin C every day. It might help you fight the virus.  They use it in Korea.  They have the same caseload as Italy but half the death rate. And of course, Italy has a very old population, so it may really not be the zinc that is making the difference.  But it is not harmful to take a zinc supplement.

Today we all slept in.  and there is a nice feeling to be home.  Juergen is blessed.  He is in software.  He can manage his job from home. Others, of course, are not so blessed. I imagine many are wondering how they can pay for food, rent or even their health insurance.  In Germany, parents can not by law allow grandparents to babysit right now.  So I know many parents are wondering how they can go to work if the schools are closed.  There are programs being put in place to pay people temporary unemployment benefits. And even self-employed people will qualify to receive some assistance. And they may start doing online school.  On Monday there is an information meeting at Sarah's school.  so it maybe she does online school.  We have the internet and many computers in our house.  But some may not.  So I am wondering what can be done for the ones who are in this gap?   I'm pretty confident someone is considering this.  Germans are very organized.  I expect that we will see the entire country shut down by the end of the week.  every store, church, theater, and program.  only food stores and drug stores will be open.  That is my guess. As long as the bakers keep baking, I think we will have peace. I am pretty sure Germany will close everything down by the end of next week...maybe sooner.   We may go to the building supply store and buy paint and moving boxes.  I want to repaint my kitchen sometime in the next weeks.  I also want to declutter.  I will be careful to distance myself from the other shoppers, wear a mask and wash my hands when I get back to the car. But if you need supplies for projects...I highly recommend you buy them now.

  1. A doctor on the news here stated that most viruses are NOT the deadly pandemic, but regular flu or common cold. She indicated that the trigger for seeking medical testing is a temperature of 10.4 degrees F.

1966 cases and I can not go home

There are over 300 new cases of coronavirus in Germany.  The death rate is very low.  Everyone wants to credit our great health care system.  I think in the end, it will be the age of the people who got Coronavirus.  Italy has a very old population.  They got hit very fast and hard with this.  We have had time to get ready.  And I told a friend of mine today, Germans still sweep the sidewalks every week.  They do what is right for the entire society, not just what is right for themselves.  That is a general statement.  Naturally, there are exceptions.  I read about a man in Berlin who went to a night club even after hearing he had the virus.  16 people got the virus from him.  So some will care more about themselves and their convenience, and others look at the greater good. About 3 weeks ago I began to see this happening.  The spread of the virus I mean.  And I had to weigh if I should travel to America to my m...

12327, up 3000 cases in 24 hours. They have the virus in Uganda

Everything is closing up even tighter.  Here in Germany, they are setting up hospitals in convention halls.  They want to separate the normal hospital business with the Coronavirus cases.  The growth is sobering.  Only the more difficult cases get to be tested.  So I do not qualify for a test.  I have little energy and get easily winded.  My cough is lessening. I have no fever.  If I have the virus, I will probably never know.  But we are really isolated at home.  We only take a daily drive with Jessica. I have enough food in the house to last for weeks.  Juergen goes out to buy bread.  But mostly we are home. Yesterday I did get Philip to mow the lawn.  I did some work on the window boxes.  Today I need to plant onions and strawberries.  Sarah began reading the first book in the 7 book Narnia series.  Juergen is giving SAP at least 12 hours a day.  I honestly do not see much of him.  After he fin...

96,092 cases and changing the world

I saw this sign on Facebook.  It made me laugh out loud.  and Juergen nearly cried laughing when I showed it to him.  If you do not get it, the Coronavirus they believe came from a person eating a bat.  Or an animal that had been infected by a bat. That person contracted the virus, and they spread it to another person...and here we all are.  Locked up in our houses, economy ready to crash. If you want to change the world in a good way, we are trying to support 35 teenage mothers and their 46 kids in this time of lock down. They can not earn money (by law unable to sell their hand crafts) so we are trying to help them pay food and rent. And they stay busy making beads, bags and soap to be sold in the future gift shop. Check here for more details. HOW TO SUPPORT TEENAGE MOTHERS SURVIVE THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN IN KAMPALA.   Nicole took my desk, and Juergen is taking the entire office to do his work. I set up a table for myself in my bedroom. T...
