The German cases of Coronavirus continue to rise. But at a slower pace. We can not really tell for a few more weeks if this is going to end. The countries around us have alarming death rates. Italy and Spain are especially bad. Germany still has not reached the 200 death mark. We have about the same cases as Spain, but they have 3500 deaths so far. This could all change. One big difference is how the virus was spread in senior care homes. In Spain, it has reached older people. In Germany, older people were locked down quicker. I am sure many people are trying to analyze why Germany has such a small rate of death. Even France has about the same rate of infection, but a death rate of nearly 1100. I think it's important to look at the practices that can lead God willing to a lower rate of death. But part of this may be stuff outside a culture's control. Germans are able to be locked down. They have a healthy social network. In Uganda, they try to force people to stay home. But people are very poor. And the government does not offer any help. They place giant tanks of water on the streets for people to wash their hands. But the people must stand in long crowded lines to do this. No one has food, or refrigerators or freezers to store food. They cook on charcoal fires. They must walk miles to get water, and then they boil that for hours to make it clean enough to drink. They have no soap. Germany has the means to comply with the government's demands to stay inside. Uganda does not have that luxury. We sent our group Suubi Teen MOPS in Kampala emergency food money. We fear the government will demand a total lockdown soon. We have raised 800 USD of the 3500 we need to sponsor 35 families for a month. It is not all they will need. But it will be enough for them to get big bags of basic things like rice, beans, and charcoal.
"Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by". -Isaiah 26:20
I am not saying that God is judging the world with this virus. But I do feel our women in Uganda need to rush to be locked in their houses. And I pray that the UN will come to help the millions of others in the slums.

Today I again drove Jessica around for hours. this time we took books to a friend who is staying home with her son. Sarah had a box of kids' books she wanted to get rid of. It is cold and windy out. But it is also very beautiful. The trees are blooming, and so are many spring flowers. I'm grateful we are still allowed to drive around. I could only drop the books at the door. I could not go inside. We could chat for a few minutes, but it was cold out. So maybe we can have coffee at a distance sometimes. I see people standing about 6 feet apart in the fields having a conversation. The people are taking this very seriously now. The radio blasts the message that we are in this together. and so we are! I got my nebulizer today by Amazon. It is really a great little machine that puts out a cool mist. I have tried it for 20mins and I am already breathing easier. Thank you Rick for the idea. Nicole is supposed to fly tomorrow. She has a sore throat. So please pray she is able to fly. Another friend's daughter is stuck in Cambodia trying to return to Germany.
