From Friday to Saturday we had almost 5000 new cases reported. From Saturday to Sunday only 2000. That is a pretty good drop in new cases. I hope we are seeing a peak in Germany. They are ready to shut the country down even tighter. I think all the stupid people having "corona parties" has basically ruined things for everyone. In my state, only groups of 3 can meet. And everything is closed. They may even stop people from riding bikes, going for runs, etc. We are all basically under house arrest. actually not yet. but it may come to that this week.
We live next to the drugstore. And the cars line up on our street as people take turns going into the store one by one. I have not gone into the store, but Juergen tells me they have sealed the counter off with plastic. And there is only a small hole people can pass their prescription through, and pay with a bank card. no cash. They also build plastic cages for all the cashiers at the supermarket. I also have not been there. But Juergen and the kids tend to take a nightly run to the store for junk food. They keep a good social distance from the other shoppers. I understand there are not many. I stocked the house with food nearly a month ago. I was accused of being panicked. But I am glad I did it ahead of the curve. I do not need to go to the store now. And I may not need to buy anything but fresh fruit and vegetables for the next month. It, of course, would not be acceptable to buy so much today. But no one questioned it a month ago. Last night Sarah made rice and Philip chile con carne. we are eating well.
Sarah is reading The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. it is the first of 7 books in the Narnia series. I am listening to it on Audible in my car as I drive Jessica around. I hear it in English and listen to Sarah to read it in German. It is suggested that WW2 inspired Lewis to write Narina.
From Wikipedia "Shortly before the start of World War II, many children were evacuated to the English countryside in anticipation of attacks on London and other major urban areas by Nazi Germany. As a result, on 2 September 1939, three schoolgirls named Margaret, Mary and Katherine came to live at The Kilns in Risinghurst, Lewis's home three miles east of Oxford city center. Lewis later suggested that the experience gave him a new appreciation of children and in late September1939 he began a children's story on an odd sheet of paper which has survived as part of another manuscript". I think the book is fitting for our situation. The world gone crazy, in lockdown and fear. Children called on to be brave. This is not a real war. Not yet. They fear the economic fall out can hurt the economy for 20 years. I hope this is not true. But it could get pretty bad. We are living in uncertain times. I talked with my mom and sister Dianna yesterday. They were very busy sewing facemasks for a local hospital. Mom has plenty of fabric in her basement. It is awesome that she can be useful as she waits in her house. They have plenty of food. And they are keeping busy. so proud of them! I am still run down. I am trying to get extra sleep. I feel like I am starting to recover. Juergen feels better too. I think they have to test Nicole as she comes into the country. And she will be placed in quarantine (hopefully at home). So far Philip, who was exposed to the virus at school seems 100% fit. The fear is that if what we have right now is not coronavirus, we can get the "real thing" from Philip or Nicole. At the moment I am pretty sure what I have is a coronavirus. I have never experienced anything that has left me so breathless. I am winded just walking up the stairs in my house. I do the dishes and sweep the floor. But I can not manage to do much else. I am starting to cough much less. And I feel like it is getting better. but I am not afraid of getting "it". I think I have it now. And by the time Nicole comes home I hope to be really over it. But we are too healthy to be tested. And I am just going to Thank God for that.
